Last week we released a new version of ActivityInfo that contained various bug fixes and some improvements for the Matrix view. Check the list below for more details:
Improvements
Improved the matrix report view so that higher-level column headers stay in view while scrolling, as long as their corresponding lower-level headers are still visible.
Facet selection changes made directly in a matrix view can now be saved as part of the view, instead of requiring the view editor to be reopened.
Bug fixes
Fixed an issue where permission formulas referencing the parent record were not properly inherited by second-layer (grandchild) subforms, incorrectly blocking access.
Fixed a crash that occurred when switching a report to slicer view while it contained only column measures.
Fixed a server error that could occur when submitting subform records after deleting a locked parent record that had drafted values.
Addressed an issue where navigating back to a subform via the breadcrumb could show an empty table.
Addressed an issue where note fields could be added as table columns, resulting in a #ERR display.
I’m glad the Matrix view is being improved. Although I know it’s actually a view and not a report (which could be generated from that subform), I wonder if it would be possible to make a few improvements.
The Matrix view only displays one record from the filtered table, whereas with the Table view you can see all the records. Would there be a way to remove the filter or add a ‘View all records’ button so that we can see the full picture of the matrix? The example I have in mind is a matrix where I enter the number of beneficiaries by gender and age group for each project, and I’d like to be able to see the full picture of the entire table in the view.
Would it be possible to select the facet dimensions? At the moment, by default, only the record label (if any) or the record’s key fields are displayed. In my case, I could choose the country instead of the project and see all the beneficiaries I have in a particular country (the alternative would be to also add the option of a filter).
Would it be possible for the matrix to automatically calculate the totals by column and by row? That would allow us to very quickly see the total number of beneficiaries by gender and age group across all the projects we’re implementing.
To reiterate, I know all this could be obtained via a report, but since this view already exists, it saves us having to create the report, and there will be many more users with fewer technical skills who can easily access this view.
