Self-Managed 5.1.1

We released Self-Managed Server 5.1.0 on July 29, 2026, followed by 5.1.1 with an automation fix. Here’s what’s new in each release.

Version 5.2 is planned for late September and will include the new Automations features and MCP server.

Fixed conditional automations. Automations with a trigger formula now run correctly.

Note fields. You can now add instructions or definitions directly to a form for people filling it in. Notes do not store data and never appear as columns in your table. Their text can be translated like any other label.
Required rules. You can now use a formula to determine when a field is required. Required rules work in data entry, subforms, and table view.
Audio recording in attachment fields. You can now record a short audio clip directly in an attachment field and play it back from the record later.
Custom validation messages. You can now specify the message users see when a validation rule fails. Instead of a generic warning, you can explain the problem in your own words. Validation messages can also be translated.
Two new languages. ActivityInfo is now available in Cebuano (Bisaya) and Tajik.

Cells no longer appear empty when a column dimension contains blank values.
Editing a cell under a blank dimension now updates the correct record instead of a neighbouring record.
Facet dropdowns now filter each other in the order you defined and include options with blank values.
Facet selections are now saved as part of the view.
Higher-level column headers remain visible while scrolling horizontally.
Background sync no longer reverts unsaved changes to the matrix view.
Dragging a dimension card now keeps the order you dropped it in.
You can now select row dimensions one at a time when adding a new row with required but blank dimensions.
Long lists of facet labels can now be scrolled.
Selecting a partial lookup key as a facet no longer blocks new rows from being saved as drafts.
Using every key field from a reference form as facet dimensions no longer causes a server error.
“Reset to default” now appears in the facet selection when “(Blank)” is selected.

Copy, paste, and select-all now work with ⌘ on Mac.
Pasting from Excel no longer adds an unwanted empty space.
Reference lookups and fill-down now work correctly when the interface language is also one of the database’s translation languages.
Fields you do not have permission to edit now appear read-only instead of allowing you to enter a value that later fails when saved.
Irrelevant cells are now greyed out, making it clear that they cannot be edited.
Locked records can no longer be edited in the interactive table.
Typing now starts editing a cell with non-Latin scripts, including Arabic and Cyrillic, and with symbols.
Reference fields no longer reset to blank when the referenced form has a record with a blank key.
“Merge records” and “Clear field values” no longer become disabled when you select a large number of records.
Adding a calculated column no longer deselects the columns you already selected.
Fixed an issue that could cause some valid records to incorrectly appear as invalid in the table view.
Phantom duplicate values no longer appear in multiple-reference fields in the table view, even though data entry showed the correct values.
The edit and clear field actions are restored in the compact record panel for roles with permission to use them.

Extra spaces and curly apostrophes no longer prevent values from matching existing records.
A cell ending with a comma no longer causes a server error.
Review screens can now handle large files containing invalid rows.
Import validation no longer fails for subforms with a unique field when the parent form has a key field.
Import validation no longer fails when a dataset has multiple rows with invalid multiple-selection values.

Exports containing more rows than Excel can support now show a clear message about the limit instead of a server error.
Export all quantities now includes all columns. Reference fields were previously omitted when an earlier reference field in the same form contained a reverse reference.
Exporting a subform with “Include parent fields” enabled now includes non-key reference lookup fields from the parent form.
A form field can now be exported when its default value formula points to a reference field.

Pivot totals now appear when a dimension is placed above the measures.
Select option ordering is now preserved when transforming a table with PIVOTLONGER.
Notebooks with many analyses now open faster and load additional analyses as you scroll.
Switching a report to slicer view no longer crashes when it contains only column measures.

The attachment preview button remains accessible when a file name is long.
On mobile devices, the “Add subrecord” button now respects subform permissions.
Parent formulas, including permission formulas, are now inherited correctly by second-level subforms.
Serial numbers are no longer incorrectly treated as irrelevant, even inside an irrelevant section.
Deleting a record no longer shows an incorrect error message.
Automatic translation now works again for a field whose manual translation was removed.
Filtering a subform table with “Show all records” enabled by a calculated field no longer leaves most rows blank.
Submitting subform records no longer causes a server error after deleting a locked parent record with drafted values.
Navigating back to a subform through the breadcrumb no longer shows an empty table.
Uniqueness checks on subrecord fields no longer count previously deleted records, which had incorrectly blocked new records from being saved.

Calculated fields no longer inherit invalid states from fields that are invalid due to relevance or required rules.
Calculated fields now read non-relevant fields as blank instead of their raw value, which could otherwise produce incorrect calculated field results.

You can no longer configure a form with both a serial number field and another field marked as the key.
The record label you select when creating a form is no longer dropped after saving.
